Clouds In The City

"...This tune came from a jam Craig and I were having, just messing around with a few ideas.  One of those nights when every idea just doesn't seem like it's going anywhere.  Then all of a sudden, Craig suggested something - can't really remember the exact details, but whatever he said spurred us on to coming up with the basic premise for the song.  Then he came up with the line "...living on the clouds in the city..".  So this one really came about because of Craig's good ideas...nice one, man!..."

Stop.  Look.  People all around in the city
On a hot streak looking for themselves or some pity
In a back seat sniffing gasoline’s pretty shitty
It's a dead beat for the welcoming subcommittee

Haven't even got a sign from a cheap whore
Haven't even got an answer to a "what for?"
Haven't even got a rhyme for a beat boy, a line for a speech
Just a dime for a cheap score

I’m living on the clouds in the city
I’m living where the fun as forgiven me
I’m living on the clouds in the city
And I can’t stop flying and I can't stop hitting down

You gotta stop girl, looking at yourself in the mirror
You’re the one who’ll be the only one to supercede her
In your bed sheets you can be an over-unachiever
Or a fresh mint at the “Purvis Watson Penny Theatre”

Didn't ever take time to take the time before
Didn’t ever get a shell from the sea shore
Didn’t ever get that funny sort of feeling,
When you try to even up the score

If I tried really, really hard
I don't think I'd give you up
'Cause I just love you too damn much
