"...A song written for Earth Day a couple years ago. I had the riff for years....I think way back in 1994 sometime I came up with it, but could never find a melody or lyric idea to fit. Once again, when my wife was in China for a 2 weeks - although at the time I had two young boys to look after - I did have a lot of time on my hands. Time on your hands plus an achy heart makes for good song-writing. Though not overly wordy, it has a lot of imagery in it, creating scenes we can all relate to; hopefully causing us think about this world we live in for at least 4 minutes and 29 seconds..."
I was driving down deserted back roads
Past glistening branches
About a hundred miles an hour
I was past the point of caring
People sharing and thoughts of power
I was guessing I was too late
I was thinking how it'd be great
You and I can't hesitate
For as the world is turning
You'll be falling into the darkest hour
For as the world is turning
You'll be slipping into an acid shower
For as the world is turning
You'll be falling into the darkest hour to date
I was thinking about you and me and what a waste
But hey who's counting?
The run down buildings
The rusted cars and the mistakes
The tension’s mounting
I was guessing I was too late
I was thinking how it'd be great
We'll be lost if we hesitate
